Biography

Viranda Irene Nottingham-Slappy, born June 27, 1957 in Macon, Georgia. She is the daughter of the late Willie James Nottingham, SR. and Viriam Purnell Bowman, Korean War Veterans . She is the wife of John Cecil Slappy, Sr. (33 years marriage), retired soldier from the United States Army and Department of Defense Civil Service employee at Fort Riley, Kansas.   

She is a graduate of Northeast High School and Los Angeles Community College. She earned an Associate Degree, General Studies in Business Management graduate of Central Texas College, Fort Riley, Kansas. Employment is with Department of Defense, United States Army Civil Service, and Army Benefit Center-Center of Fort Riley, Kansas. Occupation is Human Resource Specialist. She is a benefits counselor providing regional professional services to all civilian Departments of the Army employees.

Mother of two children and two grandchildren, Zsashamica Demetricus Slappy, graduate of Fort Hays State University, Bachelors of Arts and Master of Science, employee of University of Kansas, located in Lawrence, Kansas, John Cecil Slappy, Jr., Senior Loan Consultant Officer for Leader 1 Financial Company, Overland Park, Kansas and the grandmother of Gevon John Kimbrel Slappy and Janiyah Viriam McCray. She is the sibling of Willie James Nottingham, Jr., Patricia Ann Fenelle and Michael Allen Nottingham, all residence of Macon, Georgia.  She is currently residing in Junction City, Kansas.

Viranda Slappy is a woman of many talents. She has received many awards for recognition of her outstanding performance. Her acknowledged awards are an Achievement Medal for Civilian Service, Officially Commended for Exemplary Performance, Sustained Superior Performance, Certificate of Achievement for Exceptional Performance, and community organizational Outstanding Distinguished Services.

Leisure Time Activities:

She is a member, Past Matron of St. Tabitha Chapter, O.E.S, currently the Imperial Deputy of Oasis and Past Illustrious Commandress of Daughter of Isis (Women's Shiners Auxilary of Manhattan, Kansas, H.O.J, Cyrenes of Prince Hall Affiliation, Free and Accepted Masonry of Kansas Jurisdiction, NAACP, host and producer of "Express Yourself Radio Talk Show, writer/reporter for Uplifter Newsletter for Second Missionary Baptist Church and  Adjutant General Corps Regimental Association, Bison Chapter, Fort Riley, Kansas. Her books promotional are guest appearance on Say It Loud, Atlanta Mid Day Live, Sister Talk Show, Veterans Hour, Are You Real, WMAZ-TV Channel 13, Macon, Ga w/ Carol Minn, Bev Smith Show, Festival of Cultures guest appearance on October 23, 2004, Topeka, Kansas.

A Day To Remember
In August of 1996 at the United States Army, Fort Riley, Kansas retirement ceremony, Garrison Commander Dodson presented SFC John Slappy, Sr and Author, Viranda Slappy with their recognition of appreciation certificate awards for 20 years of service.  SFC John Slappy, Sr separated on July 31,1996.

Dr. Henry Lee

John Slappy, Sr. attended Dr. Henry Lee, Founder and Professor of the Forensic Science Program interview in New Orleans at the Sheration Hotel during the 2006 Imperial Session Conference.  Fox News was at the Sheraton Hotel providing news coverage for the Katrina storm one year anniverary story.

Viranda is 51 years old.  She loves writing, building websites, dancing, singing and listening to music.  Viranda enjoys amusement parks and vacationing with family and friends.

Viranda is the author of three novels TIL DEATH DO US PART: A MARRIAGE SURVIVES THE STRESS OF MILITARY LIFE, GENERATION IMPACT:  AN AMERICAN FAMILYS TURMOILS and new release VISION OF CHANGE SEQUEL OF TIL DEATH DO US PART: A MARRIAGE SURVIVES THE STRESS OF MILITARY LIFE.  She is currently employed with the Army Benefit Center-Civilian located at Fort Riley, Kansas.  For more information about Viranda click on the website links.

 

During her  two years ( 2005-2006) as the Illustrious Commandress of Fayum Court # 192 of Manhattan, Kansas she has many photos of her adventurous years serving as the Illustrious Commandress of Fayum Court #192 expressing Unity among the organization and throughout the community.  Viranda successful two years as the Illustrious Commandress landed her the position serving as the Imperial Deputy of Oasis for Fayum Court #192 of Manhattan, Kansas in January of 2007.  For viewing of Viranda’s wonderful exciting moment’s participating in the court events click on Author caught in the act.

One of Viranda’s greatest fan and supporter is her loving devoted husband John Cecil Slappy, Sr. Together they have overcome many obstacles as a couple and family bestowing brightness of love, laughter, joy, hope and faith through the publication of Viranda's novels which are among the rehabilitation treatment counseling facilities and the world of literature.  As we all know, the military community is one the greatest challenges of all to survive, this couple not only survive, but they shared their experience with others who they met along the way expressing words of wisdom and how they made their dream come true.

Imperial Session Illustrious Commandress Ball

Author, Viranda Slappy, Illustrious Commandress of Fayum Court #192 and husband Noble John Slappy, member of Fayum Temple # 209 attend Imperial Session Ball in New Orleans, Louisiana in August 2005 and depart the city one week before Katrina struck the city.  The couple had a week of excitement enjoying city entertainment prior to mother nature disasterous storm Katrina.
