Viranda Slappy author of the book Generation Impact takes the audience in to the mid 40’s where Willie Mae Browning and Thomas Tucker wed in Alabama.  Together they had seven kids and Thomas joined the police force and did little to support his large family.  To make ends meet, Willie Mae had to take a job at a laundry.  Their oldest son Bro skipped school a lot and Willie Mae, out of fear, kept him from his father.  But Thomas found out despite her efforts and beat him.

Willie Mae wants to see justice for her son, but when Bro refuses to testify, she is unable to press charges.  Willie Mae’s daughters Bertha and Martha go on to become the first African-American twins to enter into the US Air Force and they cause quite a stir.  Readers get to see how the members of the family grow and make their own choices in life and love and the circumstances that arise from them.

Thomas confronts Willie Mae after she leaves him with the family, which results in Willie Mae’s mom making a trip to the hospital.  Willie Mae goes on to remarry, her husband insists on doing all the cooking, and it is later discovered he is poisoning them.  The world around them begins to change rapidly as Dr. King began his fight for equal rights among the races, but their family kept facing their own diversity over and over.
